Justin Bieber with no hair. odd.

Granted, he is younger here, but looks so odd without his shiny, straight, flowing hair.

Baby, baby, baby, oooouch!!! Damn, must’ve hurt. The video kinda sucks but the slowmo is funny. hehe

The person who shot the bottle will probably want to throw more because Biebs is even coming out with his own book soon.

No Wyclef……you’re not President material, especially not for Haiti.

with one comment

By now most have heard that Wyclef Jean is in the running for the upcoming Haitian presidential elections.  What a way to pry on the youth of Haiti, who make up approximately 60% of the country’s population.  I agree with Sean Penn, it is a skectchy situation and what is reallllly in it for clef?  Will he just bring in American capitalistic ventures and initiatives that will do jack shit for the people of Haiti, and only make his pockets even deeper?  Read this story to read more about his reactions to Sean Penn’s comments.

I don’t know Wyclef Jean personally but I do believe that somewhere amidst the PR whoopla around Jean ever since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, he does have some sort of sympathy for the Haitian people.  But does he have empathy?  No.  He left Haiti at such a young age that he probably hasn’t experienced a quarter of what other Haitians have experienced.  So for him to say that he “understands the psychology of the Haitian  people ever since birth” is rather far-fetched and fabricated.  There’s just something about his wanting to become the president of Haiti that seems like he isn’t in it for the right reasons.

Beyoncé’s new vid, “Why Don’t You Love Me”

leave a comment »

The video is different, with the old-school 50’s housewife thing going on, and of course Mrs. Carter is smoking, drinking and showing some forms of domestication.  The song is alright; too many forced words/notes for my liking, but that’s her style I guess.  However, I do like some of the lyrics.  Is Kanye going to be going off about this video too just like he did for “Single Ladies”??  We’ll have to wait for the next MTV awards…

M.I.A’s video “Born Free” shouldn’t be banned on Youtube!

leave a comment »

After hearing all of the buzz surrounding M.I.A’s video for her new song “Born Free”, I was really curious to check it out.  The rumours are true; it can be a bit of a pain in the ass trying to get to see the vid on Youtube.  You have to be over 18 to see it and it can be tricky to find it.  I could see how the big wigs of Youtube/Google don’t agree with the brief nude/sex scene (which isn’t graphic at all compared to what you can see on cable) or the depiction of the American military but it has a deeper message than what meets the eye.  I was kinda surprised how the video unfolded as I didn’t know what to expect but like some of the comments on Youtube, I think both the director and M.I.A wanted to depict that prejudice, genocide and senseless wars are ongoing, even though there may not be one against red-head’s.  Art, such as this music video, shouldn’t be censored the way it is, even on something like Youtube.  She’s delivering a strong message which clearly many people do not agree with it nor want to accept.

Check it out and see for yourself.  The vid may not play on my blog because of the restrictions it has on it but if you’re over 18 and have a Youtube account, watch it.

“Helping Haiti” and “We Are the World” pt. 2

leave a comment »

“Helping Haiti” charity song — Simon Cowell’s rendition of R.E.M’s “Everybody Hurts”….including Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue and others.

◙   Twenty-five years after the original recording of “We Are the World”, Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are getting together with some of music’s biggest stars to re-record the song, to benefit Haiti; but this time, none of the original singers will be on this version.  I know Michael would have done the same thing, if not wrote a new song to bring awareness to the devastation in Haiti.  About 70 singers are on the record, including Kanye West, Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Tony Bennett, Justin Beiber…the list goes on.  Should be interesting to hear the final product.

Some celeb-ness…

◙  PETA’s Vice President says Kanye West and Amber Rose “look like pathetic creatures from a shabby roadside zoo.”  Those are some fighting words!  Just kiddin’.  The fur is definitely a little tooooo much and Amber Rose needs to get over herself because if it wasn’t for Kanye, she wouldn’t be wearing a full-length lynx coat, nor would we know her name.

◙  Even Stevie Wonder wanted a piece of “Sex Therapy“:

◙   The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien is no-more.  Just when I was starting to enjoy/getting used to NBC jabs throughout the comedy and talk show circuit, his show finishes.  I doubt Jay Leno will be able to bring his show back to what it was.  Why did they ever mess with a good thing?? I wonder what he’ll be up to next….

◙   Speaking of Robin Thicke, I am just coming to the realization that the song “When I Get You Alone” belongs to Mr. Thicke!!!  I remember hearing this song in 2002 (I can remember the year because it used to play a lot at this place I used to work at).  Damn, I still can’t get over it.  The hair on him in this video….wow, what a difference to how he looks now.

There is hope for Haiti….

leave a comment »

A couple of nights ago there were two telethons on tv (that I watched at least), Canada for Haiti and Hope for Haiti.  In case music or celebrity-ism gets you motivated to give to those who are in desperate need of help such as the country of Haiti, then these telethons should have done just that!  In my opinion, they achieved quite a bit of financial success; Hope for Haiti – lead by the man, George Clooney himself and a few of his A-lister friends, and Canada for Haiti – which included the big 3 tv networks in Canada (CTV, Global, CBC) and Canadian celebrities.  Both telethons (shown at different times, of course) had some really great and powerful performances from people like Alicia Keys, Jay-Z/Bono/Rihanna, Dave Matthews & Neil Young, Nelly Furtado, K’naan and so many others.  Hope for Haiti so far has raised over $57 million dollars and Canada for Haiti, over $27 million.  Canadians as a whole have currently donated $67 million, and the Federal government will be matching those donations, dollar-for-dollar.

In the end, there will always be that smalllll hint of doubt, whether or not the money will be allocated to the right people to do a lot of good and help hundreds of thousands of people who don’t have the means to survive at this point.  It will take quite some time for recovery to begin in Haiti but I hope that the world continues to reach out and help Haiti.

Robbie Pardlo from ‘City High’ on “Intervention”.

Damn, I was just thinking about ‘City High’ (an R&B/hip-hop group from back in the day…well, 2001) when one of their songs, Caramel, came on my iPod.  Now, he’s going to be on A&E’s “Intervention” for alcohol addiction. Very sad to see…hope he gets better soon.

Lady Gaga & Polaroid …don’t forget her hair too!

leave a comment »

One of the many reasons why Lady Gaga gets people talking.  At the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, she announced that she was hired as Polaroid’s creative director.  Not too bad for trying soooo hard but creativity did pay off in the end.  I’m all for Polaroids making a comeback!!

◙   Now, I don’t know about you but if I got a Rolls Royce Phantom as a birthday present, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.  But when you’re Lebron James, and Shaq is your friend/teammate, it’s chump-change.  I’m sure Lebron was loving life for a few minutes but I doubt luxuries like that phase him anymore.

◙   Jay-Z and his illuminati-ness continues.  Check out his video for “On To The Next One”… Hot.

Woah, 2009 in review….

leave a comment »

Man, where to begin.  2009 has definitely been an eventful, tragic, random and strange year, to say the least.  I know there are dozens and dozens of ‘top 10’ this and ‘top 10’ that, but this is my retrospective on 2009.

◙   The tragic and sudden death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.  This most certainly tops my list for what has happened in 2009, and I don’t care what anyone says.  People are still talking about it and he passed away on June 25.  Even though the rest of the family (ie. his brothers and Latoya) have tried to monopolize on their brother’s death, is tacky and distasteful, it still doesn’t downplay the fact that he’s gone.

◙   The continuation of the stupid recession aka economic downturn aka tough economic times.  Glad that we don’t hear those statements every two seconds in the media, but it still negatively effected all of us, especially those who lost their jobs and are still struggling to make ends meet.  I empathize with you completely and I hope 2010 treats you much better.

◙   What goes hand-in-hand with tough economic times?  Douchebag fraudsters who deserve all the pain and suffering = Bernie Madoff, for example, or even Earl Jones, who was dubbed the ‘Canadian Madoff’ – he wasn’t as successful in milking billions like Madoff was.  Succkkeerrss…

◙   Whitney Houston’s comeback post-crack-chronic-Bobby Brown.

◙   The fast-unravelling of Tiger Woods’ life and bag of dirty secrets: the pathetic ‘accident’ he had in front of his house; the few dozen women who’ve come out admitting to their affairs with him, the loss of his big endorsements and his indefinite leave from pro golf.  Hahahahaha another sucker!!  Elin, take him to the cleaners, girl!!!

◙   The neverending steroid saga in baseball….shouldn’t have been a surprise that the Yankees won the World Series this past year.  A-Rod loves steroids and I’m sure the rest of the team relishes in them too.  Woopdeedoooo!

◙   Who could forget (I almost did) the passing of the best ad-man of all time — Billy Mays.  Oxyclean will never be the same without him; frankly no cheesy infomercial is the same without “Billy Mays here!!”.

◙   The volatile and wonky stock market – from hitting record lows to silly highs (can we say Apple or Google stocks??).  If you were brave enough (or had some really good insider tips) and managed to keep your investments in the market throughout the rollercoaster, you probably made some good $$$$.

◙   From Lady Gaga, Drake, Adam Lambert’s steamy AMA performance, to hearing more crappy Miley Cyrus songs on the radio, and who can forget Kanye’s “Imma let you finish” moment….the music world has seen some definite action this year.  Drake, hurry up and release your album already – we’re all patiently waiting, friend; the mixtapes aren’t cutting it anymore.

◙   Oh, as much as I want to forget this – the ‘big 3’ automakers asking for their ridonculous and uncalled-for bailouts.  We taxpayers will be paying for that crap for the next 20 years…..bureaucracy democracy!!!

◙   Susan Boyle made waves with millions and millions of hits on youtube and setting records for album sales in the UK and the US.  Another lesson to Simon Cowell and the rest of the world – don’t judge a book by its cover.

◙   The television world had some new life breathed into it with ‘Glee’ being brought to the airways.  Alongside the last episode/series finale of The Sopranos, and ‘Glee’, they both contributed to “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, becoming the most downloaded song in iTunes history.  Personally, I think The Sopranos had more to do with it…..

◙   Ellen DeGeneres finally joined Miss Oprah Winfrey on the cover of ‘O Magazine’, being only the second person to join Oprah on the cover (after First Lady Michelle Obama, of course).  Congrats again, Ellen!!

***Dang, how could I forget – honourable mentions, so to speak:
– Balloon Boy:  it’ll never be referred as the Seinfeld character anymore…
– Chris Brown & Riiiihanna draaaaama : hit her again, and slap some steak on it!  or did she hit him too?  Draaama.
– The passing of numerous stars: Charlie’s best and original angel, Farrah Fawcett, and one of the coolest US politicians ever, Edward “Ted” Kennedy…In addition to Patrick Swayze (I’ll heart Dirty Dancing forever!) and Natasha Richardson, most famous for her role as Lindsay Lohan’s mother in The Parent Trap.
– President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize??  Still scratching my head on that one…
