No Wyclef……you’re not President material, especially not for Haiti.

By now most have heard that Wyclef Jean is in the running for the upcoming Haitian presidential elections. What a way to pry on the youth of Haiti, who make up approximately 60% of the country’s population. I agree with Sean Penn, it is a skectchy situation and what is reallllly in it for clef? Will he just bring in American capitalistic ventures and initiatives that will do jack shit for the people of Haiti, and only make his pockets even deeper? I don’t know Wyclef Jean personally but I do believe that somewhere amidst the PR whoopla around Jean ever since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, he does have some sort of sympathy for the Haitian people. But does he have empathy? No. He left Haiti at such a young age that he probably hasn’t experienced a quarter of what other Haitians have experienced. So for him to say that he “understands the psychology of the Haitian people ever since birth” is rather far-fetched and fabricated. There’s just something about his wanting to become the president of Haiti that seems like he isn’t in it for the right reasons.

Another teen being sentenced to death for maybe being gay.

Just as a follow-up on my “For Neda” post, the movement that is taking place in Iran also represents stories and injustices such as this one. Ebrahim Hamidi, an 18 year old Iranian man, was given the death sentence (hanging) because of the potential that he may be gay. Yes, this isn’t the first time nor will it be the last that such tragic and inhumane acts occur not just in Iran, but in other countries. Read the story and see why those of us outside of Iran are disturbed and disgusted with their means of “justice” and “law”. For those that think that the Western world is against Iran because of its nuclear threats (yes, that’s scary) but what the US, Canada, Europe, UK and the rest of the big players should be stressing real concern on are the ridiculous numbers of violations on human rights and freedoms and the crimes against humanity, in my opinion at least. Nuke talk can take place after. In my world, that’s what I would like to see happen.

Even though some people may be hating on Mr. West for posting the pages of the book on his blog/site but kudos to him for doing so. “Ten Little Nigger Boys” and “Ten Little Nigger Girls” is a book published in 1907 (from what I’ve found) by British author, Nora Case (surprise, surprise) and I’m glad he has shown the book/poem to the world. This just goes to further show how unbelieveably racist and demeaning they (those mangia cakes!) were in the 1900′s and how this was a norm during those days, where people (obviously cakers) accepted. To think a woman wrote this poem too, being that women didn’t really have many rights at all during those days. I didn’t know this existed; but we’re all quite familiar with the poem “Ten Little Indians” and now we can all be familiarized with this one.

The video is different, with the old-school 50′s housewife thing going on, and of course Mrs. Carter is smoking, drinking and showing some forms of domestication. The song is alright; too many forced words/notes for my liking, but that’s her style I guess. However, I do like some of the lyrics. Is Kanye going to be going off about this video too just like he did for “Single Ladies”?? We’ll have to wait for the next MTV awards…

M.I.A’s video “Born Free” shouldn’t be banned on Youtube!

After hearing all of the buzz surrounding M.I.A’s video for her new song “Born Free”, I was really curious to check it out. The rumours are true; it can be a bit of a pain in the ass trying to get to see the vid on Youtube. You have to be over 18 to see it and it can be tricky to find it. I could see how the big wigs of Youtube/Google don’t agree with the brief nude/sex scene (which isn’t graphic at all compared to what you can see on cable) or the depiction of the American military but it has a deeper message than what meets the eye. I was kinda surprised how the video unfolded as I didn’t know what to expect but like some of the comments on Youtube, I think both the director and M.I.A wanted to depict that prejudice, genocide and senseless wars are ongoing, even though there may not be one against red-head’s. Art, such as this music video, shouldn’t be censored the way it is, even on something like Youtube. She’s delivering a strong message which clearly many people do not agree with it nor want to accept.

Facebook bug allows people to spy on their friends.

Facebook experienced a bug that allowed users to see what their friends were talking about while chatting and they could also see pending friend requests. The bug didn’t last long (probably a good thing for some users) and facebook admin removed the chat application and are fixing the issue. It should be up and running again, if not really soon. Glad I don’t use it nor log on as often as I used to. All the fb creepers out there who got to take advantage of the slip-up, hope you were able to obtain incriminating info on your friends! LOL

Ecuadorean’s fighting for water.

The government of Ecuador wants to enact privatization of the country’s water supply to mining and electrical companies. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Well it should and if you don’t, you better do your research because it’s happening in your backyard, whether you want to believe it or not. We can all start by not buying bottled water; billions of dollars spent on buying water. It’s not like Coca-Cola or Nestlé is replenishing the supplies they are gauging. Major companies and manufacturing industries will go after the little guys first, like Ecuador, and then increase their gauging in Canada and the US. We gotta get on this before it’s too late.
